Session Dates: May 13 – June 23, 2019

Application Deadline: February 15, 2018
Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis

As part of the six week Summer Program, the College of Engineering will offer E 102, Engineering in the 21st Century. The course is relevant for all students at NC State who require a GEP Interdisciplinary Perspectives course, and it fulfills the E 102 curriculum requirement for all freshmen engineers. The E 102 CODA requirement for engineers will be waived for students who opt to complete the course in Prague. To fulfill the 5 credit program, you will take another class offered at NC State Prague. The E 102 course will involve group excursions in and around Prague, for example: Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic, National Technical Museum Prague, and Skoda auto factory.

This interdisciplinary perspectives course will provide an overview of the role of the National Academy of Engineering as well as the fourteen engineering grand challenges of the 21st century and their relationships to all of the separate engineering disciplines in the College of Engineering. Traditional classroom lectures will be minimized, as we will take an opportunity to explore engineering disciplines and engineering grand challenges in and around Prague. The majority of the course grade will involve participation in group excursions and discussion involving the critical self-reflections of these experiences. Students will gain an appreciation for the methods in which engineers, in each discipline, acquire knowledge and design tools or interdisciplinary solutions essential to meet society's future needs.
