Program Description:
Jordan BannerPROGRAM OVERVIEW
This intensive Arabic language program in Amman, Jordan provides students with the opportunity to live and study in a region that is critical to the world stage. By participating in this program, students will significantly enhance both their Arabic language proficiency and their understanding of the human condition in the Arab World. Through nine weeks of rigorous, daily language study, cultural tours, and excursions, students will learn to distinguish and identify culture-specific characteristics as they relate to ideas, values, attitudes and social structures in the Middle East.

Excursions include visits to prominent cultural and historical sites in Jordan and the surrounding area, including the ancient city of Petra, Ajloun Castle, and Wadi Rum.

ACADEMICS
Students will study Modern Standard Arabic, comprised of 160+ contact hours, at the prestigious Qasid Arabic Institute
 
NC State Students may earn up to 12 credit hours to be determined by both the Program Director and on-site instructors. Credits earned will appear on students' academic records as transfer credit.  Applicants should consult their academic advisors to determine how these credits may be applied to their NC State degree program(s).

Non-NC State Students are encouraged to contact their home institution’s study abroad office directly to inquire about credit transfer policies and application of study abroad credits. Qasid Arabic Institute will issue a transcript for each student and will also send a copy to the student’s home institution upon request. Credit will not be issued by NC State.

    • Students will be placed into the appropriate Arabic language track upon completion of a written and oral assessment to be administered by the Qasid Arabic Institute. Examples of anticipated NCSU course equivalencies are:
      • FLA 101 Beginning Arabic I

      • FLA 201 Intermediate Arabic I
      • FLA 202 Intermediate Arabic II 
      • FLA 301 Advanced Intermediate Arabic I

ACCOMMODATIONS
During the duration of the program, students will reside in shared apartments managed by the Qasid Arabic Institute. While housing and included amenities may vary somewhat depending on students' preferences and on-site availability, standard housing will include: wireless internet access, drinking water on-site, and maintenance support services. All apartments have a shared kitchen and common area, and students may anticipate sharing a bedroom/bathroom with anther program participant. 

Student apartments are usually within a 10 minute walk to/from the Qasid Arabic Institute and there are several markets, grocery stores, restaurants, and gyms in close proximity. To learn more about housing at the Qasid Arabic Institute, click here


Note: Students' apartment utility costs are capped. Usage overages will be charged to apartment residents, if needed. Qasid Arabic Institute may also charge students for key replacements, cleaning services, etc. depending on circumstances. 

EXCURSIONS & EVENTS
The Qasid Arabic Institute arranges several tours and excursions for program participants that place emphasis on cultural and linguistic immersion. Excursions included in the program fee include: Petra, Ajloun Castle, and Wadi Rum. FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS
Financial aid is generally available to help qualified NC State students meet the expenses of NC State Study Abroad programs. Students from other institutions should contact their home institution study abroad and financial aid offices for information. For additional funding, NC State students should consider applying for a study abroad scholarship from the Study Abroad Office.

The University reserves the right to alter the program format and/or costs in case of conditions beyond its control. If the program is canceled or a student withdraws, a refund of program costs may not be available in all cases.
