Tourism is the city's main revenue generator, but this port city also has a substantial trade industry. The average temperature is 90 degrees year round.

Chulalongkorn University was founded in 1917 with the purpose of educating individuals for leadership roles in the public and private sectors. It is the only Thai university ranked in the The Times Higher World's Top 200. The total student population at Chulalongkorn is approximately 40,000.
